The first time I heard speechless very cliché for me to say, but I was in fact, speechless. It is rare to look back and see gaga in her poker face era, sing, and perform something so vulnerable and raw. A raw vocal experience, a raw listening experience. In hindsight and it being 2024, I am not surprised because of brilliant performances from gaga such as A Star is Born, where she shows her range in not only vocal performance, but as an actress. But when the song came out, I was only nine years old, but who says nine-year-olds don’t know music?
To become a mainstream star mega popstar by the way, are you only allowed a couple of piano tracks to keep the album categorized as “pop”? Music categories are fading as we speak. Nobody wants to be a pop artist anymore, nobody wants to be categorized as anything really these days. The things that sound pop also sound R&B right? Saying all this to say it was all convenient to those it’s convenient for. it really doesn’t take an idiot to know that bad romance was going to be the lead single for this album. But with the song that holds so much personal value and relevancy to her life why wasn’t this song pushed and promoted like the others?
I mean, she was walking on carpets wearing protein – they were throwing her into the abyss of what it means to be an abstract and misunderstood popstar. Sitting down and playing the piano, might not give the same energy and chart climbing as Just Dance. And with it being her second album, well you kinda have to follow and continue that trend. Wouldn’t it be confusing to take your fans on a roller coaster ride of genres, to have them questioning who is this artist ? I’m assuming those are questions and reasonings that label head execs had gaga when she put anything on the table that wasn’t upbeat, eye catching , and a little raunchy. Fans and listeners can grow with an artist and can handle a little fucking piano. 
James Dean glossy eyes, cigarette stain lines. Could we fix you if you broke and is your punchline just a joke?…… ( GASPING FOR AIR). James Dean reference at one point where at all-time high. For someone like gaga is speechless what was actually happening or the feeling, bI had so many questions. Before doing any research on the meaning of this song, I truly thought James Dean was a muse of her, but to learn what she was intending, says a lot more. To make a song to convince your father to undergo open-heart surgery, speaks volumes for the outlet music is for gaga. But also shows that she understands that consumers and other listeners can appreciate and maybe relate to this type of communication.
There is a problem with being boxed in. I hear often of what the music climate was like in the early 2000s, but making the next pop hit was the way to get yourself on. Gaga had mastered that with her first album, to then come with an EP, that simply had bangers after what more could you ask for?
I also want to acknowledge the choice to perform this song at the VEVO launch party. Very interesting choice very thought out process. If you spend any time learning about life performances, music, release, dates, and launch parties. You would understand kind of the thought process of this. in 2009 she performed paparazzi at the MTV awards. Her vocals on point she dance, she moved a lot, she was even kind of dragged along the stage. But never once did her vocal slip, you would think then people would acknowledge or even consider her to be a serious vocalist. But yet they say amazing gowns, amazing mask, even. An icon was born that night, very notable pieces from that performance –  the blood dripping down her shirt. The main part that I noticed was the choice to play piano to showcase once again her talents. I might be reading into this like I always do, but it’s a selective choice, artist always go back to things that make them feel comfortable and to not feel boxed.
I don’t know these people, I don’t know anyone in the industry, but realize recognize real lies or whatever that phrase is . Watch the YouTube live performance of this you’re welcome. When we think of big YouTube sensation, Lady Gaga, some of us think Grayson chance playing paparazzi at his school talent show. Although I am a big fan of unfriend you ( love you, Greyson) this performance takes the cake.
