It is intriguing to see almost every month/season the songs that gain traction… And the ones that melt away into time. From couple edits to self appreciation slides – Chest Pain has made the lovers and the self-proclaimed haters – yearning to hear more. Why is it, what is it about these snippets that catapult new artist into success. What about this song in particular? Might be the melodic cadence of the second I LOVEEEE . With only a December 4 release date and over 2 million streams Malcolm may not be shy of these numbers with a successful single “Roommates” at 46 million streams. With the future of a potential ban on TikTok cost single like this to suffer or will other platforms rise, and starving artist create their own lane anyway.
The formula of artist tend to change by generation, leaning father and father away from creating bodies of work and more singles of success. Now don’t get me wrong, I appreciate a good one hit wonder. I think time forever moves slowly when there’s a song that brings you back to a moment. Attention spans have gotten shorter & I’m not talking about the youth. I’m talking about the adults on their phones i.e. myself – ( maybe not so much me this is a segment where I’m blaming other people for the wrong doings of the world.) the disappearance of the bridge doesn’t get talked about often in music, but damn, I sure do miss it. But there is space, there’s always space for the three minute songs with the continuous choruses and the word counts that doesn’t go over 50. Repetition is not bad and this whole paragraph isn’t really about this song. I mean, I know I’m not the only one who notices but I will to say, I see it. I recognize it and sometimes a good song is just a good fucking song.
Do I think TikTok is really gonna get banned in the states… NO. Do I know anything that’s going on with the court case or why it’s getting banned… No. I could be a diligent member of society and research and figure out the reasoning, but it is truly above me. I mean, of course I have a scope of understanding of the kindergarten basics of the potential ban but no one is paying me to worry so, I worry none. However, I do think about the people who have blown up from this app and create a revenue, shit it’s their job. I do believe an app like this has works in favor of many artists new and old, whether you like it or not it’s a formula for musical benefit. I could go into the record label and TikTok beef that happened earlier this year which could explain why this is a topic in general. It just matters kind of don’t take my word for it or do.
I really say all of this to say that I really like this song, I really like the rise of smaller unknown artists, I enjoy seeing older artists have a song from 2007 blow up because someone did a jersey remix. I’m a fan. I often think when people think of musicians they associate with celebrities, I don’t know Malcolm, I don’t know much about him. I’m referencing him by first name as if we grew up together, but I feel like that’s kind of like how journalist talk ( not that I’m journalist or anything). Not everything that seems like a big major change will mean something bad is coming. Take a minute or two give it a lesson and hopefully you like my song of the week and TikTok doesn’t get the boot.
